SEO Content Creation
Creating content for SEO can be a pain in the ass. You always hear “content is king” and well, it’s true. In order to have a site ranking well on Google you usually need to have great content. Usually, not always.
So how do we go about creating content for our clients? This depends on the type of client that comes my way. If you are a cafe owner in the middle of Milano, Texas you won’t need much content. Why? Because your town only has 500 people and even a half decent website will most likely rank well. The only pages you’ll need on your website are: Home, About, Food Menu, Contact and maybe a blog section where you publish 1 blog a month. This will be more than enough for a website trying to rank in a small town with low competition.
Now if you are a lawyer or a dentist, you’ll probably need at least 20+ pages to start your website and start adding in 2-3 pages every month depending on what needs a boost. As the top SEO consultant in Texas ;), it is my job to figure out how much you can realistically spend and from there devise a content strategy.
I have some clients that pay me $200 a month for SEO services which includes content and others that pay $1,000+ for the same services in a different area. This is due to the quality of the content needed on their website.
Cost of SEO Content
You get what you pay for.
If you are in a small town or in a low competition niche, mediocre content will be enough to get you ranked. While I do no recommend this, it gets the job done as long as you’re writing in clear English, not plagiarizing and keeping the content interesting and fresh. You don’t need a degree in writing to write SEO content.
You will usually find 3 price ranges for content creation.
Low level content – $10-20 per page.
Medium level content – $30-75 per page.
High level content – $75-$150 per page.
Low level and medium level content will work for low competition niches.
Medium and High is recommended for more competitive areas.
What kind of content should you create?
Well again, that depends on the type of website you have. If you have a jewelry store then you’ll first want to focus on creating unique product descriptions. You can also enable user-generated content by activating a review feature on your website. This is a great way to have your customers create unique content for you naturally overtime. Another great way to build content for e-commerce websites is to create useful blogs that you can share on social media. Social media helps SEO more than you may think.
If you have a law firm website you may not need as many blogs. You’ll want to focus more of your resources created practice area or service pages. An example of some pages for a criminal defense lawyer may be: DWI Page, Drug Page, Domestic Violence Page etc.
You want to ensure that your content is unique and helpful to your reader. If you don’t know where to start, you can always look at your competitors to get an idea of how content is created in your industry.
There are a few things to remember.
- Don’t copy content.
- If you copy content, give credit where it’s due.
- Don’t write then content. (Less than 200 words on a page) Unless you have a valid reason to.
- Don’t spin your content. Google is smarter than you.
- Don’t paste the same content everywhere.
